What is Bhawishya ?

What is Bhawishya?
Bhawishya is an opportunity for students aged 8-14 to solve real-life problems highlighted by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) using skills from Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). It is an initiative led by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) along with Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) with co-organizers Karkhana, Robotics Association of Nepal (RAN) and Nepal Innovation Lab (NIL).

How is Bhawishya different?
To make the concept simple, Bhawishya is somewhat similar to science exhibitions and fairs you may have seen elsewhere. However, there are few fundamental differences:
1. Students need to solve an existing local or global issue through their projects. This can be done by thinking about the applications of your project. For example: If a team builds a drone, the applications of that drone need to be identified. Is the drone used to supply medicines to rural communities? Or have you built this drone to facilitate transportation for elderly people? The possibilities are endless!
2. Students are not limited to narrow themes. Teams can explore issues raised by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which explore a broad range of issues. We welcome ideas that incorporate multiple perspectives and bring forth simple solutions to complex problems.
3. The teams have to make their project in the event venue itself! All the teams will have to bring their own raw materials and build them in the provided space. We value the process of building more than the output.
4. Students will have exclusive access to building materials through a dedicated "makerspace", making it easier for students to focus on their projects.
